Bikur Cholim at Young
For more than 50 years, our kehilah, the Young Israel of New Hyde Park (YINHP), has opened its hearts to families who need a home-away-from-home while they visit their loved ones on Shabbat and Yom Tov.
Our close proximity to area hospitals has
given us the zechut of being able to fulfill the mitzvot of hachnasat orchim
and bikur cholim.
For those needing last-minute accommodations, warm company, and a heimishe meal, the families of YINHP proclaim in unison: “Hineni – We are ready.” We are proud to have hosted nearly 5,000 guests and named thousands of babies and hundreds of impromptu shalom zachors throughout our first yovel.
Our community eruv was established with our bikur cholim in mind. Our Young Israel is a short walking distance from the area hospitals and our schedule for minyanim may easily be found by calling our shul office, 718-343-6509 or on the Web at www.yinhp.org. All accommodations for Shabbat are within the community eruv. The eruv hotline can be reached at 718-343-0496. Our gabbai, Mr. Larry Barth, will see to it that a mi shebayrach is said for your loved ones.
If you require catered Shabbat meals in the hospital, call Chai Lifeline at 212-465-1300.
Hospital visitors during the week can purchase kosher food at the Parker Jewish Institute cafeteria which is certified by the Vaad Harabonim of Queens.
Keep in mind that lighting candles in a hospital room is strictly forbidden. Please call Rabbi David Moseson, the hospital chaplain, at 718-470-7206, to request that an electric leichter be brought to your room.
For hospitality or other Bikur Cholim arrangements, please contact Rabbi Teitelman at 718-347-5819.
